We are pleased to announce the successful completion of an eye health screening event at the Humo Arena in Tashkent, conducted by a collaborative team from the Light for Sight Foundation, the National Eye Institute, and MESCA. The screening took place from November 4-12 and involved comprehensive eye examinations for 146 employees. Among those examined, we identified three new cases of keratoconus, highlighting the importance of early detection and regular eye check-ups.
Keratoconus is a progressive eye disease where the cornea thins and begins to bulge into a cone-like shape, leading to distorted vision. If left undiagnosed and untreated, keratoconus can result in severe visual impairment and, in advanced stages, even blindness. Early identification and intervention are crucial to prevent vision loss and provide effective treatment options. It is imperative to raise awareness of this condition, especially in Uzbekistan, where knowledge and resources may be limited.
This screening initiative represents a key part of our ongoing mission, focusing on the early diagnosis of eye conditions and community education. By increasing awareness about the risks of keratoconus and promoting regular eye health check-ups, we aim to empower individuals to take proactive steps in safeguarding their vision.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone involved in this event, including the dedicated medical teams, our partners, and the participants who made this initiative a success. Together, we are advancing eye health in Uzbekistan and making a tangible impact in the fight against preventable vision loss.
